Pre-Professional Shadowing Program
Are you interested in learning more about the roles and professional pathway of AAs, CRNAs, or Anesthesiologists? AAG offers interested individuals the opportunity to formally shadow with our team, working a day in the life of an anesthesia provider. No experience or formal education needed to apply. Please note: AAG cannot guarantee placement with a specific provider type as shadowing is based on availability.

FAQs
What exactly is shadowing?
Shadowing is the opportunity to follow around an anesthesia professional and experience a “day in the life”. It includes access to preop, operating room, and post-anesthesia care units alongside an AA, CRNA, or Anesthesiologist.
What will I be doing?
You will be following an anesthesia professional, observing their daily routines, and asking any questions about their career or journey to anesthesia. You will not be assisting with procedures, speaking directly with or to patients, or be expected to have any specific background knowledge of medical practice.
Can I request a specific person/professional?
Due to high demand, we cannot accommodate requests for a specific anesthesia professional. We will assign you to an AA, CRNA, or Anesthesiologist based on availability on that specific day.
Am I guaranteed 8 hours’ worth of shadowing?
An approved application includes up to two days of shadowing over a period of one month from the date of application approval. Shadowing days are from 6:30am until AT LEAST 1:00pm. Please note: Because real people and real patients are involved, AAG requires adherence to a strict code of professional conduct (included in the “Shadowing Agreement”) and reserves the right to end shadowing sessions early or limit shadowing to just one day.
Will AAG fill out my shadowing form?
Any shadowing documentation that is physically brought along to the shadowing day will be filled out as appropriate. Forms will not be filled out or signed after the shadower has left the hospital premises.
Will I be able to pick my shadowing days?
We will do our best to accommodate your scheduling requests. However, due to high demand, we reserve the right to schedule shadower based on availability within one month of a completed, approved application.
What happens once my application is approved?
Our shadowing experience team will reach out to schedule your day(s) with us at the hospital.
Why do you charge an application fee?
Although direct experience in limited-personnel environments such as the OR is difficult to obtain, our anesthesia professionals host shadowers in order to support interested individuals who may want to pursue a similar career. It takes time, effort, and administrative resources to review applications, schedule shadowing days, credential observers with the hospital, and provide high quality experiences intraoperatively. The application fee is used exclusively to support the shadowing program.
